McNeese State University

In 1939 McNeese was founded as a junior college division of Louisiana State University.  Today it is a fully accredited four-year university with master’s degree programs in languages, business administration, education, engineering, creative writing, music and the sciences.  The six undergraduate schools include liberal arts, nursing, engineering and technology, education, business, and science.  In addition, associate degrees are available in various science and humanities fields.

MSU offers an excellent selection of national or local fraternities, religious, social, and professional organizations that offer memberships to students as well as monthly student art exhibits, drama club productions, a marching band, a concert band, an orchestra, and a chorus!

Vocational & Technical

For those Calcasieu parish high school students who are not college bound, the vocational education department offers a wide range of commercial skills.  Such programs include industrial arts, agriculture, air-conditioning, refrigeration, welding, carpentry, furniture upholstering, drafting, electronics, auto mechanics, auto painting, auto bodywork, building trades, home economics, food service, sewing, child care, and seismology.  Half of each day is devoted to the chosen program and the other half to the academic requirements.  Local businesses often hire students for on-the-job training experience.
